Podcast Episode: A Story of Growth, Change, and Learning
Monday Aug 26, 2019
Monday Aug 26, 2019
Personal growth is the ongoing process of understanding and developing oneself in order to achieve one’s fullest potential. Personal development is a vital part in a person’s growth, maturity, success and happiness. It is the foundation of emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual health.
We had the pleasure of having Christina DeLosAngeles on our show after inviting us on hers, it was our turn to learn more about her and the work she is doing. Christina DeLosAngeles is a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate at Life Practice Counseling Group in Stockton, California. She works with individuals and couples in therapy to build strong relationships, deepen connection with themselves as well as others to live a more vibrant and free life.
She speaks to Jake about her journey through life, her challenges and victories. She runs her own blog and podcast whilst working on her career as a therapist and raising a family. The conversation dives deep into growth, courage and self-development.

Podcast Episode: Couples vs Individual Therapy
Monday Aug 19, 2019
Monday Aug 19, 2019
When problems threaten to swamp your marriage, that's a vital time to reach out for help. At the same time, the kind of professional you go to for help makes a huge difference.
If your purpose is to work on your relationship, then it is better to come together (an exception is when there is physical abuse – then couples therapy is contraindicated). A good couple’s therapist will have the ability to work within the relationship dynamic in ways that just aren’t there when a person is in therapy by themselves. Research has shown that individual therapy with the goal of working on the relationship isn’t effective. In fact, it can lead to separation.
Todays episode Jake deals with these two therapy types. He helps us see the importance of having your partner at your therapy sessions. If unbalancing a relationship, that is, fostering asymmetry of growth from treating just one spouse, can lead to the toppling of a marriage, that's a seriously bad outcome.

Podcast Episode: The Girl With The Hoop Earings
Monday Aug 12, 2019
Monday Aug 12, 2019
When you are committed to fulfilling your purpose, there is a way that it is going to be revealed to you. Most of the time, your purpose is revealed to you through your pain. When you know who you are and whose you are, then there is nothing that happens in your life by happenstance or accident.
We had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with a beautiful soul. A soul that has gone through the darkest of paths and came out stronger, purposeful and inspirational. Jessika is a strength & movement coach, Nike Master Trainer, trauma & the body educator, and a trauma survivor.
She opens up about her journey, ups and downs and the battles she has fought throughout her life. We have had many guests on our show, and there are those that stick with you for a long time, and this chat with Jessika is one of those.

Podcast Episode: The Mind of A Clinician: Intimate View of Jake's Life
Monday Jul 29, 2019
Monday Jul 29, 2019
We all know Jake as the co-founder of Zephyr Wellness and our favorite host on the Noggin Notes Podcast. For the past 2 years he has been interviewing many people from clinicians to individuals just sharing their stories about their journey on mental health.
Today, Jake opens the door into his own personal life and gives you an exclusive peek into his own journey to this very moment. He is doing this in effort to let you our listeners see how is mind process events in his own life.
We truly hope this brings value to you, not only to inspire and encourage you but to see that we all go through ups and downs including clinicians. Recognizing the impermanence of our lives teaches us not to cling to the “good” or run from the “bad.” It shows us how to appreciate every moment for what it is, because it’s there for a reason, and it’s not something that’s going to last forever.

When our children get upset, most of us get upset too. If the child is angry at us, we feel defensive; like the child's feelings are unwarranted. If he's upset at something else, we want to make him feel better, to make the emotions go away as quickly as possible.
The art of emotion coaching is a parenting technique that helps children understand their feelings. When parents emotion coach, their children learn how emotions work and how to react to feelings in healthy ways. This starts by recognizing your child’s feelings. Many parents are able to see the positive emotions a child expresses, but drawing close to a child who is angry or sad can take some practice. While it takes effort to teach your child about feelings and appropriate behaviors, it is time well spent. Your relationship with your child will be stronger and your child will be more prepared for the challenges life can bring.
In today's episode we are joined by Amanda Green, who works with Jake at Zephyr Wellness as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Amanda's focus is on children, age three to 10 in play and has knowledge in creating behavior plans to help parents out at home with their children.

Podcast Episode: Toxic Positivity vs Validation and Hope
Monday Jul 01, 2019
Monday Jul 01, 2019
We have all seen toxic positivity in action, it’s those Instagram posts that say “Good vibes only” or “Just be positive.” These posts fail to recognize that we are meant to feel all emotions, “positive” and “negative”, which is the healthier route.
Toxic positivity strips someone away of the validation they deserve and leaves them feeling ‘guilty’. Guilty for ‘contributing to their problems’, for ‘not being strong enough’ to get better by themselves. Instead of searching for ways to deal with the situation, people may start to doubt themselves, at a time when they need their confidence the most.
In today's episode Jake is joined by Whitney Hawkins Goodman, LMFT and owner of The Collaborative Counseling Center. Where they have a chat about ‘Toxic positivity’, how to avoid it and lean more to emotional acceptance.

Podcast Episode: A Vision With A Plan Can Change The World
Monday Jun 24, 2019
Monday Jun 24, 2019
When you donate your time, skills, or money, you are generally doing it to make something better. Whether you help build a house, or provide library books or a school to children, or help fund research for a disease, the world is becoming a slightly better place with each donation.
As you become generous, you feel powerful and walk taller. You see the world in a more positive light. As you notice the plight of others, your perspective shifts and you don't look upon your own problems as much. The little things can be ignored, because you realize how little they truly are. Even though the world didn't really change, your perspective causes you to look at it in a better light.
Our guest for tomorrow’s episode are exactly that, good deed doers. Fighters for a better tomorrow. We are excited to welcome back Michael Sodini who is the founder of Walk Talk America and we also welcome Shrae Miller who is in the process of starting a non-profit group home for foster families.
