Because of the many misconceptions about therapy, you may be reluctant to try it out. Even if you know the realities instead of the myths, you may feel nervous about trying it yourself. Overcoming that nervousness is worth it. That’s because any time your quality of life isn’t what you want it to be, therapy can help.
In today's episode Jake will go through the process of therapy, the expectation on both the clinician and patient side. People often don’t commit to therapy because they fear they will be stuck there until they die. There’s nothing wrong with continuing therapy for the rest of your life, but you don’t have to. Therapists don’t want your money that badly.

Podcast Episode: Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling
Monday Apr 22, 2019
Monday Apr 22, 2019
The main goal of all helping professions, including counselors, therapists and social workers, is to do no harm. Counselors build relationships of trust with their patients and therefore must be aware of their professional and therapeutic responsibilities to their patients.
Early in the counseling relationship, counselors must establish the guidelines of their relationship, clarify their roles and obligations to the patient, explain the ethical standards under which they practice and discuss conflict resolution techniques.
In today's episode Jake goes over the 5 ethical principles considered relevant to counselling. The fundamental values of counselling and psychotherapy include a commitment to: Respecting human rights and dignity. Protecting the safety of clients. Ensuring the integrity of practitioner-client relationships.

Podcast Episode: Boundaries: Protecting Your Emotional Space
Monday Apr 15, 2019
Monday Apr 15, 2019
Boundary setting is an important, albeit difficult, part of self-care when a loved one is living with a mental illness. This may be harder and more complex for some than others. By setting boundaries, you are taking responsibility for how others treat you and your own needs seriously.
Boundary violations of any sort tend to cause relationship problems. When one partner's actions cause another to feel belittled, unimportant or abused, then that other partner is faced with the task of learning how to defend themselves.
Join us on this episode as Jake guides us through the importance of boundaries within our lives and relationships.
